Build 51. Front Wing Prep 2

This covers the preparation in order to fit the front wings. There are a few things to note here that are IVA related. The first is that the front of the wing needs to be in front of the alloy, but behind the tyre, and I'd been reading that they like the front of the wing stay to be 80mm from the front mounting bracket.

I decided to remove the wheel for measuring the first stay, but this wasn't really necessary so I kept it on for the second one. Basically I offered up the wing stay and measured the 80mm from the front mount to the front of the wing stay. I then marked the positions of the brackets with a temporary felt tip, and then removed the stay. Masking tape was then used to make it obvious where the wing stay would attach.

I then simply used some 40 grit sand paper to remove the power coat, and then scored it all with a knife. At this point I could then site the wing stay on the brackets without it moving, so the roughing up must be sufficient!

Next up, I used a rasp to remove the powder coat from the chassis mounting bars, making sure I removed the parts that will be in contact with the stay. I then did another trial fit of the wing stays to ensure that everything was in the right place, and measured it all again!

I decided at this point that I would put the nose cone on and this was mainly so I could see the wing stays in place exactly as they would be seen with the nose. This meant any small adjustments could be made to make it look as good as possible. I also noticed that the nose had a small scratch on it, so after a quick email to CC, they informed me that they will sort it under warranty when at the PBC, so that's quite good.
